Sony to launch the PS3 outside Japan first?

Apparently Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. president Kaz Hirai was quoted in the press as saying the
company hadnt yet firmly decided to go the traditional route by launching the
first in Japan. He said they hadnt
decided in which territory theyll debut the console, and even hinted that they might choose to unleash it on
multiple markets at once. If they do go this route, it would be the first time Sony has debuted a console outside of
Japan. Maybe theyll try to make it up to the European market for
of the PSP and launch the
PS3 there first. Hey, may as well dream.

A multiple-market or US-first launch could definitely help Sony fight the lead time of Xbox 360's launch. Figure that it's a given that they will take the Japanese market, and focus attention on battling for US marketshare as early as possible.

IMO:Xbox360: Could be good with the media center and all, I will purchase it namely for Halo 3. I hate the name though, 360...PS3: Will do entirely better than Xbox360. In power and performance as well as games.Nintendo Revolution: I have no idea. I am hoping for the best. I still really do believe they've got some super cool trick up their sleeve to live up to the "Revolution" name.As far as the PS3 launching outside of Japan first? Hell yeah, we get some change. Or wait, better idea, release in Japan, America, and Europe at the same time. Hmmm... Actually, I am not exactly in the know. Perhaps that is a bad idea in some way.
Posted May 19, 2005, 1:32 PM ET by
i thought the revolution was related to the ability to download the back catalogue of nintendo games and play them emulations style on it?

Can someone put up the specs for both PS3 and the XboX360 as a comparison chart?

Hug-me, are you a dude or a chick?

'better idea, release in Japan, America, and Europe at the same time. Hmmm... Actually, I am not exactly in the know. Perhaps that is a bad idea in some way.' To do this would be to risk releasing machines with ALL the same defects in ALL markets at launch. Staggering the release allows for tweaks and improvments to be made incrementally. Also, depending on their project management, this would allow lead time over competition if they left language translations as the last thing and spent the majority of the hardware and software development time and resources 'perfecting' the unit from a technical standpoint. Also, it takes time to manufacture enough machines for multiple regions, so launching into 3 at once would require a HUGE launch stock. Conversely, if released in 3 regions simultaneously they could just offer fewer units per region and charge a premium...which is one half of the two way gamble between quality and quantity as applied to market saturation and customer satisfaction. But since most of their revenue comes from the software sales and not from the hardware sales I think they'd prefer to have as many units out there as possible at ANY given time. Particularly with a backwards compatible system that has a huge library of titles available at launch time... Just some things to think about...

If we get lucky maybe all the systems will premiere in America holiday season 2005. Heheh, fat chance though.27. Posted May 19, 2005, 9:56 AM ET by Dude McDude I wonder what the chances of this video being legit are? Another Nintendo On video supposed to be a cammed video from E3 I think. Anybody know anything about it?

I wonder if Spartan feels good knowing that people officially hate him... and not for any good reason either... just cuz he's an absolute jerk and idiot. Also, the spiderman and fridge comments are so played... so played. I don't even really like Sony, but the fanboy and rehashed comments are just annoying.

LOL really resembles Spiderman font... good one doogster

#13, you're a moron. Who plays consoles in France? Well just about every male citizen does. You might as well ask who watches japanese anime in France! You know, definitely stamp yourself stupid. The only reason it won't get released in France first, or Europe for that matter, is because people there don't have so much money to throw out the window.

As a past player of NES, SNES, PSX, (then stopped playing consoles), this is what I objectively see:PS3 has wowing arcade type, sophisticated adult oriented, along with a wide diversity of other games with excellent graphics - sure to get the most attention from the most people.Xbox 360 has great grfx with their PC type games: FPS and sports games with cohesive multiplayer. Yet, do americans only care about PC games: FPS and sports? I'm bored to heck with another Quake 20, Halo 56, Halflife 10000 on my PC why get a console to play PC games? I suppose Gates/Balmer have money to burn.Revolution will of course have Mario Bros Party Hat 666, Mario Cart 33, Yoshi 44, Zelda 99, ... and thats pretty much it. With no large 3rd party support, Rev'n = Dreamcast = will not make it to the next round.

I hope the PS 3 DESTROYS the crapbox 360 and puts MicroSHIT out of its misery once and for all.

Ya'll really need to give up this "Spiderman font" nonsense. You can see both of the official Marvel Spider-man fonts in this image:&The font you people are complaing about is a font Sony has used before Spider-Man - they used it for the Smashing Pumpkins, for example. There have been free versions of this font floating around for a while too, and in fact Sony may be using one of these now for all I know (or maybe the free ones even came first). One of them's called 1979, the other's called Homoarakhn. In any case, it's not a "Spider-Man font", it's either a Sony font or it's a freeware font that's been out there since at least 1997 and probably a lot earlier. It's never been used by Marvel comics for anything, but has been used by Sony for several different things (they edit it a bit each time, but it's the same basic font).I guess I may as well start running around complaining that Sony's using "the Smashing Pumpkins font" for the PS3. But you know what? I'm not an idiot, so I won't.As for the PS3 release date, as long as I don't have to pay an import markup to get a system at launch, I'll be happy.

jeff, idiot = anyone who spends time commenting about a 'font' joke.joke does not = complaint

man... i don't think i'd underestimate microsoft this time around. have you seen the sheer number of developers and games they've got this time around just for launch?i dont think either system has an advantage over the other much in terms of graphical power. if anything, i think the ati chip is a lot more flexible. ati and nvidia took a totally different approach this time... my bets are on ati. (48 pipelines? *cough* *hack* *choke* are you serious?!) sony claims the power of more than 2 geforce 6800 ultra's... microsoft claims the power of more than 2 radeon x850's... if anyone's been following video cards, you know there's no clear winner. only thing i can say is that sony was smart to involve nvidia in developing their graphics chip this time around... not like the disappointment with the ps2.anyway... sony must be feeling the effects if they're considering something like this.

i thought the revolution was related to the ability to download the back catalogue of nintendo games and play them emulations style on it?---LMFAO.. Nintendo reminding people about free emu software on the web is always good.. lmfao..this is like those clips you see in theatres "Please don't download movies" and then you turn to your friend.. "You can download Movies?! SWEEEET!!"

oh yeah... does anyone know how they're cooling that thing? they've always had issues with heat problems, particularly with their last line of high-end computers, but since started using water cooled solutions so that's what i'm assuming they're using... but still there's almost no ventilation holes or anything on that thing! i guess that's why under every ps3 picture they state "Design and specifications are subject to change without notice."

i dont think they ever said more than 2 X850s, i thought it was a single one, especially cause ATi does not support SLi technology, but one X850 is better than one 6800 isnt it? either way i think that theyre shittin us, 2teraflops?! the fastest supercomputer is 71teraflops, their saying 35 PS3s would have the power of the worlds fastest computer? and xbox360 using dual powermacs to handle the demos?! how are they gonna pull this off with a decent price and a case so small, either heatpipes or liquid cooling, which is expensive and bulky, i just dont see how they are gonna pull it off, at least PS3 can use the entire case as a heatsink, dont know how good of an idea that is tho, lol

Wahey! Finally! We need making up for that whole PSP business! Makes me sick, we always get everything AGES later. Well, not always, sometimes its just a week or 2. But still, give us lot over here in europe a chance to enjoy something before the stupid Americans (no offence, but u r pretty sad, some of u, minus cheerleaders, the whole world should adopt that idea :D )

yeah, but that is the sterotype of Americans in the UK, ever since u elected George Bush, twice.
Posted May 20, 2005, 5:56 PM ET by Donclave
right ALL americans voted for Bush just like ALL brits have horribly deformed teeth and antiquated, superior, post-imperialist views of the rest of the world.

i think revolution will make you pay for an NES game you download.. like a buck a game ~lol~ in other words 360 will make a turn for the worst man... why cant they just call it x-box xerox box or something
